PERMITS and Technical
- PERMISSIONS: Depending on the proposed shoot location, we may need to seek official permission to fly. In Hong Kong for example, flying for commerical use requires official authorisation from the Civil Aviation Department (CAD). To obtain this, paperwork needs to be submitted to the CAD at least 14 days in advance explaining what we are planning to film, and for how long. SCP has a strong track record of winning approvals to operate, as we work closely with the local Civil Aviation Department, have comprehensive third party liability insurance, certified pilots, and a fully professional operations manual.
- RANGE: We can fly a camera up to 500m away from the pilot location (base location) in any direction. If a job requires a greater range of continuous shooting we are able to operate from a moving vehicle, e.g. following a road bike race.
- FLIGHT TIMES: Depends on aircraft, weather and payload. In general, we are able to fly between 8-20 minutes.
- MONITORING: The camera operator’s control unit includes a high-definition LCD screen providing a live feed of what the camera is shooting. The brushless gimbal allows for complete remote-controlled pan and tilt functionality.
- LIVE FEED: We can attach an additional transmitter to allow a live feed from the camera direct to a client’s chosen output: e.g. a giant plasma screen at a sports event or concert.
- LOCATIONS: We can fly indoors and outdoors, over land or sea, and in most built up environments. However we always carry out a thorough safety inspection checklist of a new location before flying.
- WEATHER: For outdoor locations, weather is an important issue and will be a key factor determining how we advise the scheduling of a shoot, and what camera angles, altitudes, etc. are possible within the conditions at the time. We can fly in light wind, but reserve the right to delay shooting if weather conditions make it difficult to fly safely. We advise that wherever possible, a flexible shooting schedule be planned in advance to accommodate potential weather-induced delays.
- INSURANCE: Global comprehensive
third-party liability insurance to cover all our
aerial filming operations, up to USD3,000,000.
It is recommended that you take out insurance for the camera that you choose to shoot with. - SAFETY: We love nothing more than capturing awesome shots, but only if it is safe and secure to do so. We take flight safety protocol seriously, and have written our own tailored operations manual for these aircraft.
